Ratchanok's title bid comes a cropper in Finland final

11/10/2026 20:21:00

Ratchanok Intanon's hopes of winning her second World Tour title of the year and the 10th of her career ended in disappointment as the Thai ace fell to Mia Blichfeldt in the final of the US$500,000 Arctic Open 2026 in Vantaa, Finland, on Sunday.

The Thai top seed was beaten 17-21, 13-21 by the Danish eighth seed in the women's singles decider as Blichfeldt captured her first title of the year and her first since the Hylo Open crown in 2025.

Ratchanok, who won the Malaysia Masters in May, had won eight straight matches against Blichfeldt before Sunday, but the Dane finally flipped the script against the former world champion to take the Super 500 crown, the second of her career, after the 42-minute final.

World No. 5 Ratchanok went the distance in both the quarter-finals and semi-finals, and the final proved a match too far for the 31-year-old, who looked visibly exhausted and committed far too many errors against Blichfeldt, who did not drop a single game all week.

In the mixed doubles final, third seeds Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin beat fellow Chinese Gao Jiaxuan and Wu Mengying 21-18, 21-16. It was their second title of 2026 after the Super 300 Macau Open.

In the men's final, fourth seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark edged Japan's Yushi Tanaka 16-21, 21-16, 27-25.
