MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) served hot meals to 143 evacuees at an evacuation center in Agoncillo, Batangas, on Friday following a phreatomagmatic eruption of Taal Volcano.

PRC response teams prepared and served meals on the morning of Oct. 9 at the PAGCOR Socio-Civic Center in Barangay Pansipit, where the evacuees were taking temporary shelter, the organization said in a statement on Friday.

The operation followed the distribution of protective equipment and masks by the PRC Batangas Chapter, according PRC.

“Providing warm, freshly prepared meals immediately following a volcanic eruption brings much-needed comfort and relief to families forced from their homes,” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard J. Gordon said.

“Our teams will continue to stand by our communities every step of the way,” Gordon added.

PRC Secretary-General Gwendolyn Pang commended the chapter's staff and volunteers for their work on the ground.
